The Harnish farmstead was originally built in 1774 and included 150 acres of Lancaster farmland. The family lived in a springhouse by the creek (no longer existing) while they built the main house. In 1860, the current generation of Harnish children built the brick guest house for their parents. The property was owned by the Harnish family from 1774 until the early 1950?s, when it was bought by Richard Witmer.
